As I was waiting for Derek to finish his phone call before we started our interview, I was absentmindedly flipping through his book Future Frequencies. I came across his story about Orlan, the French artist that uses her body as a canvas in public surgeries that can best be described as performance art pieces. So, the first thing I asked him was, “What does progressive culture have to do with business strategy 20 years out?”
You’ll hear the answer in the interview. In a field where preconceived notions paint the future in technological brushstroke’s, Derek’s views are refreshing because they span the whole of human experience. I hope this interview provides a different way of looking at the future and inspires all of us to create the future that we want.
